Arizona 2009
Las Vegas to Las Vegas in a week taking in the Grand Canyon, Los Angeles and the 2009 MotoGP at Laguna Seca along the way.

This is the latest USA tour organised by Darren following the success of the 2008 tour of Arizona.
Darren says "It's looking like I'm going to be wandering on over to USA again to see the Laguna Seca round of next season's Moto GP (5th July 2009). I wondered whether you think anyone would be interested in joining me and Belinda. We will fly into Las Vegas (direct flights from Manchester) collect bikes from there (Harleys) and go onto the GP, then take a trip down the West coast taking in Los Angeles, on through Arizona via Wickenburg, Sedona, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon (sky walk if possible) and back to Vegas. We get to experience Independence Day on the Saturday, too. Due to a stop for a full day to take in the GP, the trip would mean flying in Thursday and flying back to UK the following Friday (landing Saturday morning). I think the cost would be somewhere between $2,700 and $3,000. Obviusly I don't know what that will equate to in Sterling come next July, but if people are interested, and wanted to get the money ready in dollars whenever they can, then that could limit any impact."Want to join this once in a lifetime adventure? 25-06-09 Longest Day Weekend Update

With over 500 miles from Lancashire to Durness at the Northwest tip of Scotland and the land of the midnight sun (we hoped) it was an early start with a full tank of petrol for the goodly selection of bikes and riders. It was amazing to see the range of machines, from Andy on his Kawasaki ZX6 to Mick's 1200 BMW and an assortment of Triumphs, Honda and Yamaha in between, all lead by Pete on his Aprilia Tuono.

Andy let it be known that his tank range was 130 miles on the Kawasaki. Our first stop was at Castle Douglas, some 170 miles later. Needless to say the Kwaka was still running if only on petrol vapours. And so it continued up the west coast. We were due a stop at Ullapool but with enough in the tank to reach Durness the signal was given to carry on and so we reached Durness some 13 hours and 560 miles after setting out from Colne. Time in the saddle does take its toll but with the roads getting better and better, the scenery reaching spectacular levels and not a straight rode for miles the aches and pains only become a reality when you stop at the end of the journey. After a meal and a drink aches and pains disappear and the journey is lived through again in words. Saturday was a gentle ride out to Bettyhill, a museum visit, Smoo Caves and a walk to the craft village at Balnakeil with a leisurely lunch thrown in. The return journey on Sunday was down the East coast and one of my favourite roads across Glen Shee, past the ski areas.

The roads in this part of the world were specifically built for travel by motorcycle and if you own one I would suggest you introduce it to its natural partner, you won't regret it. Peter Laidlaw is the North West Region Chairman of the BMF and organises the annual Longest Day Weekend. look out for information on the June 2010 Weekend on northwestbiking. Just as a footnote Andy has ordered a Kawasaki Z1000 for future tours.

26-04-09 Black Sheep Run Update

A small but select group of riders headed off to North Yorkshire stopping off at Pateley Bridge for breakfast before calling in at the Black Sheep Brewery Visitor Centre in Masham.

With no panniers to carry beer it was on to The Creamery at Hawes via Leyburn through Wensleydale for a coffee and cake (with cheese) stop. The weather started off fine but we could see the dark clouds gathering and, with not a waterproof between us, we turned and headed homeward
